The fifth installment of THE PURGE franchise is beginning to take shape and THR has reported that the project has found its male lead in Tenoch Huerta, who you might remember as the infamous drug trafficker Rafael Caro Quintero in Netflix's Narcos: Mexico. Huerta is set to star in THE PURGE 5 alongside Ana de la Reguera (ARMY OF THE DEAD).
At the moment, not much is known about the latest PURGE sequel, but THR's sources say that this film will take the franchise out of its usual metropolitan setting while still dealing with the same class and race issues the series has always tackled. The new film will be directed by Everardo Gout, who has helmed episodes of Luke Cage, Banshee, The Terror, as well as much of National Geographic's Mars series, and the script will once again be written by series creator James DeMonaco, who has previously teased that it could be the end of the series. "I have it in my head. I think I’m going to write it. I think it’s a great way to end it all," DeMonaco said. "We want to end it all, I think, in this one, and I’m very excited. When I came up with the idea and pitched it to everybody, they seemed psyched, and I think it will be a really cool ending, how we take this one home." In addition to the movie franchise, there's also a Purge TV series on USA Network which is currently in the middle of its second season.
The fifth installment of THE PURGE franchise is already slated for a July 10, 2020 release.
