Netflix is killing it right now. Their original content is coming out on a near weekly basis. But between the houses of cards and the unbreakle Kimmy Schmidts, it's time to get some more genre in there! Netflix's answer to our call is the psychological thriller Gypsy, which is set to premiere in 2017 with a ten episode first season.
The show is written by Lily Rubin and just landed a high wattage frontliner in Naomi Watts. The actress has a long history with horror filmmaking, having starred in the American remake of THE RING (and its sequel, but I prefer not to think about that one), Peter Jackson's KING KONG remake, Michael Haneke's 2007 remake of his Austrian film FUNNY GAMES, CHILDREN OF THE CORN: THE GATHERING… Geez, has she been in any original horror movies? I guess that's what happens when you get your big break in the 2000's.
At any rate, Gypsy is an original property. Watts will play:
Jean Holloway – a therapist who begins to develop dangerous and intimate relationships with the people in her patients’ lives.
The first two episodes of Gypsy will be directed by FIFTY SHADES OF GREY's Sam Taylor-Johnson. Naomi Watts will executive produce alongside Rubin, Liza Chasin and Working Title’s Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner and Andrew Stearn.
