So, this looks surprisingly cool.
THE SIGNAL, a new sci-fi/thriller with some hints of horror, is the first mainstream film from cinematographer William Eubank (CRAVE) and it looks like quite a compelling slice of cinema based on this new trailer. Bringing in veteran actor Laurence Fishburne and up-and-comers Brenton Thwaites, Sarah Clarke, Olivia Cooke, and Beau Knapp to the flick, THE SIGNAL has a healthy mix of mystery and action with a lot of creepy cool sci-fi imagery tossed around to keep it going. We've heard very little about this flick so far, which may be why it looks as intriguing as it does.
Have a look:
Here's the synopsis:
Three college students on a road trip across the Southwest experience a detour: the tracking of a computer genius who has already hacked into MIT and exposed security faults. The trio find themselves drawn to an eerily isolated area. Suddenly everything goes dark. When one of the students, Nic (Brenton Thwaites of “The Giver” and “Maleficent”), regains consciousness, he is in a waking nightmare…
The visual punch of this flick is really what has me interested. Plus, once you throw in Fishburne with his deep bass voice narrating the proceedings you can't help but feel like you might be back in THE MATRIX, which this feels somewhat akin to. The film debuted at Sundance earlier this year and received mostly positive reviews that outlined its strong visuals and unpredicatable "head trip" of a story. Consider me booked for the "trip."
THE SIGNAL starts broadcasting on June 13, 2014.
