Mysterious 1st trailer for Cloverfield “blood relative” 10 Cloverfield Lane

Back in 2014, we learned that Dan Trachtenberg (who created that awesome Portal short Portal: No Escape) will be make his feature film director debut with a post-apocalyptic thriller titled VALENCIA starring John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and John Gallagher Jr. The first trailer has been released for the upcoming J.J. Abrams-produced movie, which is now going by the name of 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE, and yes, it does have some sort of connection to Matt Reeves' CLOVERFIELD.

"Something's coming…"

You may have caught the 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE trailer if you went to an east coast screening of Michael Bay's 13 HOURS last night, and after one of their readers reached out to them about it, Collider contacted Paramount Pictures, who provided a statement to the site from Abrams.

The idea came up a long time ago during production. We wanted to make it a blood relative of Cloverfield. The idea was developed over time. We wanted to hold back the title for as long as possible.

Here are the previously reported plot details:

The majority of the movie takes place in an underground cellar, home to a teenage girl and a caretaker. The girl woke up in the cellar after a car accident, at which point her eerie companion tells her a nuclear attack has devastated society. The girl still hopes to escape.

Based on the trailer, the story details and Abrams' comments, it seems the film won't be a direct sequel to the 2008 found footage flick, but rather a spiritual follow-up set in the CLOVERFIELD universe. What do you think of this mysterious first trailer for 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE?

10 CLOVERFIELD LANE will be in theaters on March 11, 2016.
