Hi-ho there, Muppet fans! Did you know that today is the 52nd anniversary of The Haunted Mansion? It’s true! One of the most beloved Disney attractions opened its creaky doors to guests at Disneyland in Anaheim fifty-two years ago today. To celebrate, Entertainment Weekly has debuted two first-look images from the upcoming Muppet Haunted Mansion special. I hope you’re prepared to see Kermit in drag because that’s what you’re gonna get.
See. You can’t say that I did not try to prepare you for this glorious sight. Kermit, while often modest and perhaps a bit uptight, looks positively ravishing in his pink dress, pearly necklace, blond wig, and strap-on snout. Meanwhile, Miss Piggy looks equally as amazing in her bedazzled Kermit costume. What a pair these two make, even after all these years.
Oh, but let’s not forget how dashing Gonzo the Great and Pepe the King Prawn look in their bespoke suits. Gonzo is definitely channeling some Hugh Hefner energy here while Pepe looks like he’s on his way to an opera. Both Muppets look like born-entertainers that are ready to host the daylights out of Disney’s upcoming special.
The brand-new special will feature a star-studded Muppets cast, celebrity cameos, all-new music, and spooky fun for families to enjoy together. Muppets Haunted Mansion takes place on Halloween night when Gonzo is challenged to spend one very daring night in the grimmest grinning place on Earth … The Haunted Mansion.
I can’t help but wonder which ghouls and ghosts Gonzo and his Muppet pals will meet in this new special. Will they run afoul of the Balding Man, Old Woman, Tightrope Walker, Medusa, or the Werecat Lady? I certainly hope so, but then again, anything can happen in the Haunted Mansion. Will Pepe be forced to marry Constance Hatchaway, the Black Widow Bride? Will Electric Mayhem jam out with the Organist? Will the Singing Busts join the chorus when the Muppets sing their songs? We’ll have to wait until the special arrives on Disney+ to find out. Speaking of which, Muppets Haunted Mansion has yet to receive a release date, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for updates.
