THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS FOR THE MS. MARVEL FINALE
Marvel Studios‘ Ms. Marvel finale debuted on Disney+ on Wednesday, and fans are losing their minds about one of the episode’s stunning reveals. If you have not watched the finale or don’t want the game-changing reveal spoiled for you, fly away now. Are you still here? Marvelous. Let’s get into it.
Marvel Studios made significant changes to Kamala Khan‘s powers for her MCU debut, and now they’re changing her origin too. In the comics, Kamala develops abilities after coming into contact with Terrigen Mist. The mist links back to the Inhumans, which Marvel adapted into a television series for ABC. Unfortunately, the show failed to gain an audience and was canceled shortly after its premiere. In the Ms. Marvel finale, Kamala Khan learns that she might not be human but isn’t Inhuman. Where exactly does that leave her? As it turns out, Kamala could be a mutant!
At the end of the episode, Bruno explains that, while researching Kamala’s powers, he noticed that her genes are unlike the rest of her family. He says he’s discovered a “mutation,” and the X-Men ’97 theme plays at that moment. This reveal essentially makes Kamala Khan the MCU’s first mutant! Unless you count the Professor Xavier cameo in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, I suppose. While this doesn’t mean much to Kamala at the time of the reveal, it has major implications for the MCU’s future.
We have questions, of course. Is Kamala able to tap into the Noor powers because of her X-Gene? Are other mutants living in Jersey City and other parts of the world? How prominent will Kamala’s role be in future MCU projects? Will she be included in any forthcoming X-Men-related projects?
What did you think of the Ms. Marvel finale? Are you excited about Marvel leaving more breadcrumbs for a trail that leads to the X-Men? Do you think Kamala will ever enroll at Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
