Academy-Award winning director Morgan Neville (20 FEET FROM STARDOM) will helm a documentary about the life and times of the one Fred Rogers, better known as Mr. Rogers from PBS's iconic MR. ROGERS' NEIGHBORHOOD series. The film will chronicle Rogers' career, and his personal journey to the TV legend he became. It will be aptly titled WON'T YOU BE MY NEIGHBOR? – based on one of Rogers' catchphrases.
Now, to be fair, Mr. Rogers was quite a bit before my time. I believe he was still on the air while I was a kid, but I preferred cartoons and music videos to MR. ROGERS' NEIGHBORHOOD(for better or for worse). However, after seeing a video of him persuading a jaded senator to stop cuts from slashing PBS (which I've embedded below), and researching more about him, I've definitely gained a new appreciation of the man. He seemed – alongside Bob Ross – to be a genuinely good person (in an age where that's seemingly in increasing short supply), and I'll definitely check out the doc to find out more about his life and journey.
Meanwhile, WON'T YOU BE MY NEIGHBOR? will hit theaters June 8th, 2018.
