MPAA lays down the hand of God and slaps Devil with a weak rating

During the “Trailer Park” panel at Comic Con this year (where they simply show trailers for about 30 minutes), the outlook for DEVIL was not good. Everything about the trailer seemed well-recieved… until it dropped the “from the mind of M. Night Shyamalan” in which boos, groans, and laughter greeted the remaining minute of the trailer–which should have been intense but came up stupid because of M. Night’s involvement. Way to ruin the marketability of your name, yo!

Anyway, I was still pumped to see it regardless of the raving and ranting from fellow fans, as the NEW POSTER was pretty damn cool and (for the most part) the trailer remains to be pretty dope.

But now that the MPAA has gone and slapped DEVIL with a rating, my excitement for the flick has gone done a notch. Not that I should have been surprised, but DEVIL is now officially rated PG-13 for violence and disturbing images, thematic material and some language including sexual references.

It was also rated PG-13 fro being f*cking weaksauce! Thematic material? Some language? Sexual references? Weak! Sure, they mention violence… but there’s violence on daytime television so that doesn’t mean anything. Disturbing violence I could take… gruesome violence would be better… and bloody violence would be best. But this? F*ck this.

And dont’ come at me telling me it’s a psychological thriller in a f*cking elevator and that it doesn’t need an R rating. If it’s as scary as THE RING or THE GRUDGE I’ll eat the hat I’m wearing, but you and I both know that won’t be the case.

So there you go. DEVIL = PG-13. And now all we can do is wait to see what that really means for the film, which hits theaters everywhere September 17th. Yay.
