Winona Ryder slips some details about the plot of Beetlejuice 2 and her potential return

We had reports that both Tim Burton and Michael Keaton were climbing aboard the sequel to BEETLEJUICE in what many assumed would be a reboot or a follow up independent from the original classic. That might still be the case, but yet another member of the BEETLEJUICE cast has voiced a desire to return to continue to story.

In an interview with The Daily Beast, Winona Ryder was asked about her involvement with BEETLEJUICE 2. Here is what she said:

“I’m kind of sworn to secrecy. But it sounds like it might be happening…”It’s not a remake. It’s 27 years later. And I have to say, I love Lydia so much. She was such a huge part of me. I would be really interested in what she is doing 27 years later.”

Being sworn to secrecy certainly sounds like she has more than a cursory knowledge of the film and it’s status. Mentioning 27 years could either be that Ryder is curious since that much time has passed or that is when the story will take place. That is a very exact number and seeing as BEETLEJUICE came out in 1988, that would make 27 years later to be 2015. Could BEETLEJUICE be poised for a return in what is already one of the biggest sequel years at the box office of all time?

I would love to see everyone return for the sequel since they are all alive aside from Glenn Shadix who played Otho and Sylvia Sidney who was Juno, the caseworker. I want so badly for this to be a quality follow up and not an excuse to cash in on the rabid fan base who love the original movie. Hopefully more news comes out soon.
