Last year AMC ordered a pilot of the classic Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon comic "Preacher" to be written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. After everyone had their “huh, them?” moment, Rogen and Goldberg got to work writing the thing and we were left wondering exactly which group of actors and actresses would be cast in these great roles.
The lead character of Jesse Custer would be a difficult role for anyone to fill, but according to Tracking Board, Dominic Cooper has popped up as the frontrunner. The actor is fresh off ABC's Agent Carter as well as BBC America's Flemming, so the timing would be prime for him to jump on-board something new.
If you need a refresher on what this crazy series is all about, here's the synopsis for the series from AMC:
Preacher follows Reverend Jesse Custer, a tough Texas preacher who has lost his faith, has learned that God has left Heaven and abandoned His responsibilities. He finds himself the only person capable of tracking God down, demanding answers, and making Him answer for His dereliction of duty. Accompanying Jesse on his journey is his former girlfriend and a friendly vampire who seems to prefer a pint in the pub to the blood of the innocent. On his tail is one of the most iconic bad guys in print – an immortal, unstoppable killing machine named the Saint of Killers – a western lone gunman archetype whose sole purpose is to hunt and kill Jesse.
Keep in mind that Dominic Cooper has yet to have been formally offered the role so we’ve got to consider this as rumour at the moment, but it's nice to know that things are moving forward on the series. I think Dominic would be a great choice, his role in THE DEVIL'S DOUBLE was without a doubt the highlight of that film.
If true, would you be pleased with this casting choice? If not, who would you rather see?
