Watch the trailer for NBC’s series Believe, from J.J. Abrams and Alfonso Cuaron

It feels like there are at least a dozen J.J. Abrams produced shows on the air there are actually only four: PERSON OF INTEREST, REVOLUTION, and the upcoming ALMOST HUMAN. The fourth is the NBC series BELIEVE which we now have the first trailer for. What sets BELIEVE apart from the other projects is Abrams' co-producer and the director of the pilot, Alfonso Cuaron.

BELIEVE is about an unlikely relationship between a gifted young girl and a man sprung from prison who has been tasked with protecting her from the evil elements that hunt her power. Much like most J.J. Abrams produced series, BELIEVE has a shadowy conspiracy that is trying to bring down the protagonists. In this case, that shadow takes the form of Kyle McLachlan. On the side of good are the psychic child Bo played by Johnny Sequoyah and Jake McLaughlin as the ex-con charged with protecting her. Jamie Chung and Delroy Lindo also appear in the cast.

Cuaron's visual skill is evident in this trailer, especially the interior car crash sequence, but overall the show feels like a slight variation on Kiefer Sutherland's bland FOX series TOUCH, which just got cancelled. It would be nice to have an ongoing series with Cuaron's involvement, but BELIEVE just doesn't seem like it will last very long.

Check out the trailer and judge for yourselves. BELIEVE premieres midseason on NBC.
