Warner Bros. taps writers to develop Wile E. Coyote movie

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

After decades of purchasing elaborate but ill-fated contraptions from the ACME Corporation, it seems that Wile E. Coyote may finally be airing his grievances with the company on the big-screen. Deadline reports that Warner Bros. is in the process of developing a feature-film centered around the Looney Tunes character and have tasked Jon and Josh Silberman with writing the script for COYOTE VS. ACME.

The Silberman's are best known for their work on Living Biblically, Bordertown, Deadbeat, and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Chris McKay (THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE) is also onboard as a producer. Given just how long Looney Tunes has been in existence, it's somewhat surprising that COYOTE VS. ACME would only be the third theatrical film in the franchise, following in the footsteps of 1996's SPACE JAM and 2003's LOONEY TUNES: BACK IN ACTION. Going with Wile E. Coyote, a character best known for high-energy slapstick, is probably a good bet, especially if the project also makes use of Roadrunner.

COYOTE VS. ACME isn't the only Looney Tunes project which Warner Bros. has in development, as they've also been working on a SPACE JAM sequel for some time which is reported to be centered around Lebron James. STAR TREK BEYOND director Justin Lin had been attached to helm the film, but The Wrap claimed earlier this month that Lin had dropped out and that up-and-coming director Terence Nance was in advanced negotiations to replace him.
