Even with Alicia Vikander headlining the upcoming TOMB RAIDER reboot, my interest in the project really only took off last week when it was announced that Walton Goggins had joined the cast as the villain. After delivering standout performances on The Shield, THE HATEFUL EIGHT, Justified and many others, I can't wait to see Goggins do his thing in what will hopefully be a grand adventure movie. Much like his other roles, Walton Goggins' character will be a little more complicated and the actor recently told Yahoo Movies that the TOMB RAIDER villain won't be what we're expecting.

Is he a villain? Sure, that is an easy description. An antagonist, for sure. But [like other characters] I have been so lucky to have the opportunity to play over the course of my career, there are real reasons behind his antagonism, and it’s not what you’d expect. He is very complicated, and his motivations are pure.

Directed by Roar Uthaug (THE WAVE) from a screenplay by Geneva Robertson-Dworet (GOTHAM CITY SIRENS), the TOMB RAIDER reboot will see “a young and untested Croft fighting to survive her first adventure” which producer Graham King has said will revolve around Lara Croft searching to see if her father is dead or alive. Goggins is certainly excited to get to work, saying that this is "just a wonderful opportunity. But more importantly, the story is so good. It’s so good! I think I can say this: For me, it’s like Raiders of the Lost Ark meets a genre version of the Joseph Conrad novel Victory: An Island Tale. I just jumped at the chance." TOMB RAIDER is set for a March 16, 2018 release.
