As many of you know Universal is currently working on their classic monster cinematic universe. It’s an intriguing plan if anything which already has Alex Kurtzman directing THE MUMMY set to hit theaters on June 24, 2016. While probably not as exciting as a Marvel or DC slate, Universal now has a release date for the next offering currently going by Untitled Universal Monster Franchise Film.
Which monster will be headlining the picture? We don’t know that just yet; we do know that the movie is currently dated for Friday, April 27th, 2017.
Here is a quick press release:
A new epic action-adventure in a series produced and overseen by the creative team of Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek series) and Chris Morgan (Fast & Furious series), the UNTITLED UNIVERSAL MONSTER FRANCHISE FILM will follow The Mummy in their new initiative to revive and reimagine Universal’s classic monsters for a modern audience.
That “modern audience” line is apparently another way of saying these will be action movies. I don’t have any issue with that; I welcome the idea of bringing something new to the table with these monsters. If Wolf Man wants to get on the back of a motor bike and howl over a cliff with it, bring it on! The monster universe should be an interesting one to watch while the superheroes have the world’s attention that’s for sure.
What Universal Monster do you want to most on the big screen again?
Dude was a player.
