Tim Miller, David Fincher’s animated anthology gets gonzo first trailer

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Netflix is no stranger to adult animated series, with their series BIG MOUTH one of the most talked-about shows on their roster. But next month they're going all in on their latest project, the violent, sexual, and all around gonzo animated anthology series, LOVE DEATH AND ROBOTS. Presented by Tim Miller (DEADPOOL, TERMINATOR 6) and David Fincher (ZODIAC, THE SOCIAL NETWORK) the first trailer is here to tease the anthology of 18 animated shorts that “cover a variety of adult topics including racism, government, war, free will, and human nature" across 185 minutes. Even as far as the teaser is concerned, best watch it away from disapproving eyes.

How do you tease 18 animated shorts in such a small video? Of course, you crank the speed up to 11, get inspired by acid-fueled fever dream and go to town by rocketing a series of images from the shorts of varying animated styles. You got 3D animation, anime, and even what looks like some live action in there. It’s a movie trailer inspired by a rave, and I defy anyone to not replay the footage several times, if not only to be come over with a wave of hallucinogenic euphoria.

Here’s the synopsis:

The full roster of stories will cover a variety of adult topics including racism, government, war, free will, and human nature. The anthology collection spans the science fiction, fantasy, horror and comedy genres and each short has a unique animation style: from traditional 2D to photo-real 3D CGI. The creators were assembled for a global calling for best in class animators from all over the world including artists from France, Korea, Hungary, Canada and the US among others. The series draws inspiration from the eclectic and provocative comic book material from the 1970's that influenced both Miller’s and Fincher’s formative interests in storytelling.

LOVE DEATH AND ROBOTS hits Netflix on March 15.
