The visual style of The Matrix 4 will be different from the original trilogy

The visual style of THE MATRIX trilogy is hard to ignore with its distinctive colour palette and costuming, but if Neil Patrick Harris is correct, the upcoming fourth installment of the franchise may look a little different.

While speaking on SirusXM's The Jess Cagle Show, Neil Patrick Harris offered a brief update on THE MATRIX 4 while discussing writer/director Lana Wachowski. "I think she has a great inclusive energy and her style has shifted visually from what she had done to what she is currently doing," said Harris. As it's been over fifteen years since the last installment of THE MATRIX franchise, it's easy to imagine that Wachowski's visual style has evolved, but I suppose we'll have to wait and see just how different THE MATRIX 4 will be. Neil Patrick Harris added that the film will be "ambitious" and feature plenty of wirework. The film will also give Harris the chance to do something he's always wanted to do: act in a big blockbuster.

I've always wanted to be a lead in a big giant action movie with wires and stuff. And this is not bad for me, but it's certainly tangential and fun for me to be able to play in the sandbox a little bit.

In addition to Neil Patrick Harris, THE MATRIX 4 will also feature the return of Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Lambert Wilson, as well as franchise newcomers Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jessica Henwick, Jonathan Groff, Priyanka Chopra, and more. Production on THE MATRIX 4 resumed last month after being shut down due to COVID-19, with the film slated to hit theaters on April 1, 2022.
