The Venture Bros.: HBO Max in active talks to rescue the series

The cancellation of fan-favorite Adult Swim series The Venture Bros. came as a surprise to its fans but it looks like a return could be in the works. HBO Max executive Andy Fossell took to social media to reveal he's received many messages from Venture Bros. fans and while he says nothing is officially happening yet, there are active talks going on at the streamer to revive the series.

Talk about HBO Max nabbing the series began pretty much when the cancellation was announced. Other updates on the show included Adult Swim indicating they would be willing to create a finale special for the series to provide some closure for fans. The cancellation seemed a bit unexpected since producers Jackson Publick and Doc Hammer had already begun work on season 8. There seems to be more life in The Venture Bros. and HBO Max could very well be the right home for a return. 

The Venture Bros. followed the Venture family, made up of incompetent teen brothers Dean and Hank, their insecure scientist father Rusty, their family bodyguard Brock Sampson and a colorful cast of supervillains, like The Monarch, Dr. Girlfriend, Sergeant Hatred, and Phantom Limb. The show typically spoofed many superhero tropes and got most of its satirical inspiration from the show Johnny Quest. McCulloch voiced several of the characters along with Michael Sinterniklaas, James Urbaniak, Patrick Warburton, Doc Hammer, Steven Rattazzi, and Dana Snyder. The show has the distinction of being one of the longest-running original series on Adult Swim, running seven seasons over 17 years. The pilot episode aired on Adult Swim in 2003, and the first season premiered in 2004. Fans typically had to wait between two and three years between seasons, and the final one ended in 2018.
