The Strain’s Jack Kesy set to play a major villain in Deadpool 2

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

While there's no shortage of comic book-related films these days, DEADPOOL 2 is without a doubt one of the most highly-anticipated of the bunch. For now, the David Leitch-directed sequel to Deadpool's first R-rated outing isn't due to wisecrack its way into theaters until June 1, 2018, but that's not going to stop anyone from getting excited about major updates for what the Merc with a Mouth has planned.

Today, 20th Century Fox has confirmed that Jack Kesy (THE STRAIN) has been cast as a major villain in the film. Although Fox was reluctant to share which character Kesy would be playing, sources close to the project have strongly hinted that the actor will step into the role of Black Tom. In the comics, Black Tom is a sinister sort, whose abilities give him the power to manipulate, bond with, and expel energy through plant life. When he's not getting all fancy with those powers, Black Tom is also capable of delivering concussive blasts with wooden objects, though most of the time he prefers to use a shillelagh. He's an outsider in an arresting Irish family and was raised in secret by Banshee's daughter, Siryn. Throughout his career, Black Tom has been known to team up with the one-man-wrecking machine, Juggernaut, from time to time.

It sounds to me like Black Tom would fit right into Ryan Reynolds' R-rated romp, though we'll have to wait for the official confirmation from Fox before we start getting all excited. That's okay though, because not only has it already been confirmed that Morena Baccarin is returning as Wade's love interest, but we're getting Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Stefan Kapacic as the Colossus, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and Josh Brolin as Cable, too! That is one hell of a lineup for a sequel to "the little comic book movie that could", if you ask me!

DEADPOOL 2 will sarcastically saunter its way into theaters on June 1, 2018.
