The Pale Lady is waiting for you in Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark poster

I haven't read Alvin Schwartz‘s "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" since I was a kid, and although I scarcely remember the actual stories, I sure as hell remember the terrifying illustrations by Stephen Gammell. The one which freaked me out the most was the Pale Lady, and she's the subject of the latest poster for the upcoming SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK from director André Øvredal and producer Guillermo del Toro. Take a gander, but just don't look too closely, she might just pop out and get you.

It will be interesting to see just how effectively André Øvredal and Guillermo del Toro have been able to weave these separate short stories together, but we'll likely get a much better idea tomorrow as the first full teaser trailer for SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK will be released. I don't know about you, but I'll be keeping my lights on while I watch it.

The official synopsis for SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK:

It’s 1968 in America. Change is blowing in the wind…but seemingly far removed from the unrest in the cities is the small town of Mill Valley where for generations, the shadow of the Bellows family has loomed large. It is in their mansion on the edge of town that Sarah, a young girl with horrible secrets, turned her tortured life into a series of scary stories, written in a book that has transcended time—stories that have a way of becoming all too real for a group of teenagers who discover Sarah’s terrifying home.

SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK will hit theaters on August 9, 2019.
