While there hasn’t been a lot of confirmed news to report about the upcoming videogame adaptation THE LAST OF US, it’s always great to hear that the project hasn’t been forgotten about. That last we heard, Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) said it’s pretty much a go for her to play Ellie in the movie and now the game’s director and writer of the film script, Neil Druckmann, revealed in an interview some updates.
In an interview with Game Informer he said that a second draft has been completed and that a table read of THE LAST OF US script with “a bunch of actors” recently took place. He went on to reiterate previous statements about the movie saying it’s faithful to the tone of the game but isn’t just going to be a copy of the its plot:
(It’s) Pretty faithful to the game. There are some big changes, but the tone and what the story’s trying to say is pretty faithful to the game.
If you’re a fan of the Nathan Drake series of games from Naughty Dog, Uncharted, you will be happed to know that Druckmann is hard at work on Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End:
When I’m in the office, it’s all Uncharted 4 all the time,” he said. “When I should be sleeping, it’s the Uncharted movie….Yeah, sorry, The Last of Us movie.
As you know, there is also an UNCHARTED movie also in development that will be directed by Seth Gordon, and is set for release on June 10, 2016. I’m more curious about THE LAST OF US movie myself, that games story and tone played out better than most horror movies these days. I don’t expect a 100% copy of the game to show up on screen, it’s an adaptation and should take some liberties with making it work for its audience. We will keep you posted on these two big movies as news arrives.
