The Expanse could be revived for a fourth season on Amazon

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Quite a number a TV shows have fallen under the axe over the past few weeks, including The Expanse, which was cancelled by Syfy after three seasons less than two weeks ago, but there are always options when it comes to resurrecting a series. According to THR, The Expanse could very well live to see another day as Amazon Studios is reportedly in talks to revive the space drama for a fourth season.

The deal hasn't closed, so don't get too excited just yet, but sources have said that Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos is a big fan of the book series by James S. A. Corey and was "livid" when Syfy initially got the rights to the series. Amazon later snagged the streaming rights to The Expanse, but this would bring the series entirely under Amazon's roof. The Expanse takes place two-hundred years in future when humanity has colonized the Solar System, but a conspiracy soon threatens the peace of the system as well as the survival of humanity. It's exciting news for fans of the show, but until the deal closes, it's best to keep the campaign alive.

I haven't watched The Expanse for myself (although I keep meaning to), but I often hear it referred to as one of the best sci-fi TV shows around. Ratings for the series have never been overly impressive and it comes with quite the hefty price tag, but I'm sure Bezos is more than willing to devote a minuscule portion of his massive fortune to revive a show he's fond of. "The Expanse transported us across the solar system for three brilliant seasons of television. Everyone at Syfy is a massive fan of the series, and this was an incredibly difficult decision," said Chris McCumber, president of entertainment networks at NBCU Cable Entertainment, upon the series' cancellation. "We want to sincerely thank The Expanse’s amazing cast, crew and all the dedicated creatives who helped bring James S.A. Corey’s story to life. And to the series’ loyal fans, we thank you most of all."

Any fans of The Expanse out there who are pumped to hear of its potential return?
