Thanks to your nominations we have now compiled the final list of nominees for The 15th Annual JoBlo Movie Awards (aka The Golden Schmoes)! Final voting runs from Monday, February 8th through Wednesday, February 24th, with winners to be announced on Friday, February 26th, just ahead of the Oscars!
To note, the Golden Schmoes have been a staple of the site since its inception and we're proud to represent the popular vote and even have our winning results counted in the awards tally at IMDB (see below). So, thanks to everyone who voted and for letting your voice be heard! You'll still get one more shot as we prepare to vote for the winners now that the final nominees are in. Let's get into the final nominees, shall we?
Given the massive impact both MAD MAX: FURY ROAD and STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS have had on the fan community, it's no surprise those led the charge for most nominations (and deservedly so, in my opinion). I was pleasantly surprised to see both EX MACHINA and SICARIO get some strong love, as both have been all but ignored by the so-called "legit" awards shows. Can't beat the fan vote, though, and we got it covered this go round. It was also great to see KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE rack up some solid nominations, as it was no doubt one of the most surprisingly cool flicks of last year.
No records were broken in terms of MOST nominations (which still belongs to Christopher Nolan's INCEPTION with 19 nominations), but some were obviously favored more than others (see the most-nominated below). The selections were well in line with the popular opinion of most cinephiles (or, at least, the Schmoe community) and included a bigger selection of the more popular films we enjoyed this year, rather than an overwhelming dose of "Oscar bait" as is the case with most other awards shows. Overall, I think this is a great representation of some of the best films of 2015 and am proud of the nominee results. Y'all done good! Take a look at the nominees below and start planning out how you'll vote come next week…
