That rumored Men in Black/21 Jump Street movie is really happening

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Looks like the sequel to 22 JUMP STREET is going to spoof shared movie universes as The Wrap has confirmed that Sony is moving forward with a crossover between the Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum buddy cop series and the scifi comedy MEN IN BLACK. This news comes on the heels of the reveal that the studio is working on a female-centric spin-off of 22 JUMP STREET.

The JUMP STREET/MEN IN BLACK crossover was first revealed thanks to the Sony hacking scandal, but screenwriter Rodney Rothman confirmed it was in the early stages of development. It does not appear clear whether the spin-off will be independent of the other films in the series or even if it will take the place of 23 JUMP STREET. I would be willing to bet that the crossover will end up being the next movie in the franchise and, if all works out, they can continue either series with no creative limits whatsoever. Imagine the possibilities!

It remains unknown at this point whether any MEN IN BLACK stars would appear in the crossover, but I find it hard to believe that Will Smith or Tommy Lee Jones would want to play second fiddle to either Hill or Tatum. So, is a movie even worth seeing without those guys? What would the context be? The idea is so batshit crazy that I am not ruling it out entirely, I am just not sure it will work.

23 JUMP STREET currently has no release date but stay tuned for more details on both spin-off projects.
