The Michael Bay-produced, Jonathan Liebesman-directed NINJA TURTLES has a new release date, which probably won’t affect the disdain many have for the developing project, moving forward a month from May 16 to June 6, 2014, sandwiching it between two dinosaurs; Disney/Pixar’s THE GOOD DINOSAUR and JURASSIC PARK IV. That’s a lot of green creatures in a three-week timespan.
The plan is for NINJA TURTLES to have a “mo-cap” cast, who will be joined by Megan Fox, presumably as some variation of April O’Neill. No other details on casting, location, or alien origins as of yet. The film is rumored to begin production in April, after a hiatus to tighten the budget. I’m looking forward to seeing the Turtles on the big screen again, but am obviously cautious with the info we’ve heard thus far. Still, I’ll give the benefit of the doubt until I see some moving pictures.
The good news is that even if you aren’t happy with the prospects of the new movie, Nick Toons has renewed the currently running animated series for a THIRD season. Seeing as the second one hasn’t even started yet, that’s pretty sweet. I’ve seen every episode of the first season probably 5-10 times each as my son is now obsessed, much like I was as a kid. In my opinion it’s the best animated version of the Turtles yet and completely captures the brotherly spirit and charm of the characters. I can only hope that Liebesman will capture the same.
NINJA TURTLES is set to roll out on June 6, 2014. You can catch Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Animated Series on Nicktoons.
