Ever since Alan Taylor took on the gig of directing THOR: THE DARK WORLD, my interest piqued. Having done such an amazing job on HBO’s Game of Thrones, I knew that Taylor would bring a more gritty, organic, and epic feel to the series, which would be needed to carry the God of Thunder through a more otherworldly journey. And man, is it nice to see the payoff in this teaser trailer for the film! I really didn’t think that I would muster as much excitement for this as I had for IRON MAN 3, but this has quickly moved into the top spot for the fall movie season. I’m certain that had original director Kenneth Branagh done the sequel it would be a fine film, but it looks like Taylor’s involvement has created a more edgy, Game-of-Thrones-on-steroids feel and I absolutely love it.
Hammer Down:
I’m sure some folks will be a little leery of Thor’s return to the theater, but after two iterations on film (THOR and THE AVENGERS), I think that Hemsworth has embodied the role perfectly and having most of the key players back from the original only sweetens the deal. The complaints of spending too much time on Earth in the first film seem to have been heeded for this go round, which should make for a more “comic book” feel. Thank the Gods!
Here’s the synopsis:
Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.
THOR: THE DARK WORLD, starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Christopher Eccleston, Ray Stevenson, Idris Elba, Jamie Alexander, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Zachary Levi, Kat Dennings, Rene Russo, Chris O’Dowd returns to the Nine Realms on November 8, 2013.
