Spoiler: Here is what Nathan Fillion’s Guardians of the Galaxy cameo may be

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

With the confirmation that Nathan Fillion would have a “fun” cameo in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, everyone and their mother had a theory as to who the FIREFLY star could be playing. Some ventured to guess Nova Prime while others thought he may play his character of Mal Reynolds within the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY universe. Turns out there may be another theory that holds a little more water than either of those.

Coming from Schmoes Know, their source claims that Fillion will not be appearing on screen in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY at all, but his voice will. The source has the actor portraying the voice of Cosmo, the telepathic dog and buddy to Rocket Raccoon. Unfamiliar with Cosmo? Here is their quick summary of the fan favorite character.

Cosmo is a telepathic Russian dog in the Marvel Comics universe. The character was created by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, first appeared in Nova vol. 4 #7. Within the context of the stories, Cosmo is the security chief of the spacestation Knowhere and a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

While Nathan Fillion could easily portray any number of Marvel characters (Doctor Strange, anyone?) or even play a young Han Solo, with his commitment to his series CASTLE, I would think this seems to be the most likely character for him to have jumped in to play. We have all assumed that his part would tease something bigger and Cosmo could easily be a bigger character in a GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY sequel, but this seems to be just the perfect dose of Fillion in a movie that already has to sell audiences on a very foreign and outlandish new universe.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY hits theaters August 1st.
