Update: Not only will Spider-Man 3 bring back villains from past Spider-Man movies, but a few former Spider-Men themselves may be returning as well. According to Collider, Andrew Garfield will be back and Sony/Marvel is also hoping to close a deal with Tobey Maguire as well. Additionally, Kirsten Dunst will be back as Mary Jane, and it's expected that Emma Stone will play Gwen Stacy again as well. Keep in mind that this is all rumour at this point, but given how the film is shaping up to be something of a live-action Spider-Verse, it doesn't seem to be out of the realm of possibility. We'll keep you updated.

Looks like the Marvel Studios multiverse is a certainty as The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Alfred Molina will reprise his role as Dr. Otto Octavius / Doc Ock from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2 for the currently in production sequel to Spider-Man: Far From Home. Molina joins Jamie Foxx who will return as Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man 2. These casting announcements will bring all three Sony-produced franchises together and could pave the way for Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield to join Tom Holland as three different Peter Parkers.
Comic books have long played fast and loose with parallel dimensions and alternate universes and this concept was even teased by Jake Gyllenhaal's Mysterio in Far From Home. While that turned out to be smoke and mirrors, rumors have been churning that this narrative device was on the horizon when the Doctor Strange sequel was officially subtitled Multiverse of Madness. It all may begin in just over a month when Disney+ debuts WandaVision where Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff may introduce the multiverse concept to the MCU.
Naturally, Marvel has yet to comment on Molina's involvement in the superhero sequel.
For the moment, the third film in Marvel's Spider-Man: Homecoming series is slated for a December 17, 2021 release in theaters. Whether or not the coronavirus pandemic will delay the film remains to be seen, but if we don't have a handle on the pandemic by then what are we even doing? Thankfully, a COVID-19 vaccine is already being distributed in select parts of the world and has, so far, yielded positive results.
Returning as director for Spider-Man 3 is Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home helmer Jon Watts, with Benedict Cumberbatch set to appear as Marvel's Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Strange. Additionally, Spider-Man alumni Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Jacob Batalon and Tony Revolori are also expected to return for the already-densely-populated sequel.
