Has Sony settled on a title for their upcoming new solo Spider-Man film? It might be so, thanks to some detective work by the BBC. Having uncovered that Sony has registered the domain SpiderManHomecomingTheMovie.com, it'd be pretty easy to decipher that SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING is something the studio has its sights set on. (This is the same way many learned that SPECTRE would be the title of the most recent James Bond film.)

The title has a number of meanings to it, if it turns out to be the case for Sony. HOMECOMING has history with Spider-Man, referring to Amazing Spider-Man #252, a 1984 storyline featuring the webslinger, the black Spidey suit and appearances by the likes of Iron Man, Captain America and Thor. Given their new proximity to each other in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, that storyline does indeed hold possibilities. Then again, HOMECOMING could simply be referring to Spider-Man coming home to the Marvel Cinematic Universe after being on his own for so many years at Sony without any greater Marvel interaction. Or knowing that we're going to get a younger Peter Parker in high school, HOMECOMING could have something to do with the school's Homecoming Dance and… well, as you see, we can do this all day.

Needless to say, Spider-Man and "Homecoming" could have a real future together… or it could be nothing at all. I guess we'll find out eventually.

SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING(?) is scheduled to swing into theaters on July 7, 2017.
