Sony announces The Amazing Spider-man 3 and 4 are coming in 2016 and 2018

It looks like the multiple villains appearing in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 are going to be a part of a larger scale vision for the franchise as Sony has officially announced two more sequels are coming on June 10, 2016 and May 4, 2018. Whether or not these sequels will be directed by Marc Webb is unknown at this time, but it does show the filmmakers are intent on telling a cohesive story across multiple films.

With THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 still filming in New York, more and more set photos have unveiled looks at the various villains populating the sequel with the potential formation of The Sinister Six for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3. Unlike other sequels loaded with bad guys, as long as there is a vision for where they want to go, I am okay with it. Sony Pictures chairman Jeff Blake had this to say about the franchise:

“Spider-Man is our most important, most successful, and most beloved franchise, so we’re thrilled that we are in a position to lock in these prime release dates over the next five years.”

I liked THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN and have faith that with the revamped origin story out of the way that the second film can be much better. I will always have a soft spot for the Sam Raimi films (excluding SPIDER-MAN 3) but I feel that Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone have much better chemistry on screen than Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst did.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 starring Garfield, Stone, Jamie Foxx, Paul Giamatti, Dane DeHaan, Chris Cooper, Sally Field, Shailene Woodley, Colm Feore, and Martin Sheen opens May 2, 2014.
