While there's a section of the world who would rather forget about this year's April Fool's Day shenanigans, Chinese-born Canadian actor Simu Liu (KIM'S CONVENIENCE) is definitely in the business of keeping the hoodwink-holiday alive and well!
Liu posted an alarming update to his personal Twitter account this Wednesday afternoon, stating that he and Marvel had parted ways on the making of SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS, citing creative differences as the reason for his departure.
Extremely saddened to announce that I have parted ways with Marvel due to creative dif- ah, you know what, the world’s been through enough; I’m cancelling April Fools.

Naturally, because time has all but lost its meaning during the exhaustive month of March, Liu had gotten one over on a number of his fans. As you can imagine, his social media feed was soon flooded with GIFS of blinking celebrities as well as the classic image of a relieved Denzel Washington holding a hand over his still-beating heart.
Shortly thereafter, Liu assured the astonished masses that all is well within the MCU, and that the chance to play Shang-Chi in Marvel's upcoming film is nothing short of a dream come true for him personally.
This job has been literally everything I dreamed of and more I would do it for free soooooo don’t worry 😉

Oh Simu, you dirty, dirty dog. Having recently pulled off a well-natured prank of my own, courtesy of a special Talking Comics podcast, I know what it's like to have left fans feeling bamboozled by an unexpected surprise. To be perfectly clear, Simu Liu is still set to star as Shang-Chi for Marvel's upcoming superhero action film.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS will introduce Marvel's first Chinese superhero to the MCU. The plot of the film remains under wraps at this time, though you can bet that Marvel will be going to great lengths to insure that Shang-Chi kicks some major ass when making his big screen debut.
In addition to Simu Liu, SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS will also star Awkwafina (THE FAREWELL) as well as Tony Leung (RED CLIFF) as the real Mandarin, who will likely be setting the record straight after the imposter version played by Ben Kingsley in IRON MAN 3 was unmasked. The film is slated for a February 12, 2021 release, though of course that's subject to change amid the COVID-19 pandemic scheduling shuffle.
