Shooting on Black Adam could be delayed according to Dwayne Johnson

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Dwayne Johnson has been attached to play DC Comics' Black Adam for quite some time now and shooting on the film is set to take place this summer. While that's the current schedule, Johnson says that could be put into question due to the current state of affairs with the coronavirus.

Johnson recently took to Instagram to hold a live Q&A session with his fans and while a variety of topics were brought up, the topic finally shifted to BLACK ADAM. The plan, according to Johnson, is for the film to begin shooting in July and while that's still in the cards, he knows the situation has been rapidly evolving with what's going on in the world and he's prepared for a change if it happens:

"I'm very excited about Black Adam by the way, I've been training very, very hard for that role. We were supposed to start shooting it in the summer, in July, and we'll see. I'm not quite too sure if it's still gonna happen, or, at least, if we'll still start shooting in July but it will all work out the way it's meant to work out."

The positive news is, if production is delayed by a few months, the movie could likely still make its planned release date. BLACK ADAM is currently set to arrive on December 22, 2021 with Jaume Collet-Serra (THE SHALLOWS, JUNGLE CRUISE) taking on directing duties. Johnson has been training like crazy for the role and has shared multiple videos of his regimen to get into shape to fully embody the character. The plan was for Johnson to go from shooting RED NOTICE with Gal Gadot and Ryan Reynolds straight into shooting BLACK ADAM but COVID-19 cut the Atlanta shoot on RED NOTICE a bit short so Johnson is likely to have a busy slate when it's ok to go back to work. He's arguably one of the busiest actors in Hollywood and he has THE KING, YOUNG ROCK & a HOBBS & SHAW sequel in development so only a global pandemic could stop his work flow.

The actor has been attached to a BLACK ADAM project for most of his acting career. Originally, the idea was to have The Rock, in his early days of transitioning into a movie star, play the character as the main villain in SHAZAM!, which was in development for years before it managed to get made. The decision was ultimately made to give the character a solo movie first with the hope that Zachary Levi's Shazam will go head to head in crossover down the road.

Do YOU think BLACK ADAM will get to start shooting in July?
