It's been some time since I last watched it, but Paul W.S. Anderson's EVENT HORIZON is a bit of a guilty pleasure; not only does it feature a fantastic cast which includes Laurence Fishburne, Sam Neill, Jason Isaacs, Kathleen Quinlan, Joely Richardson, and more, but it also comes with an ample helping of disturbing visuals. The 1997 film told the story of a spaceship which disappeared into an artificial black hole after testing its experimental gravity drive. When the ship reappeared years later, a rescue crew, along with the gravity drive's creator, was sent to investigate the ship, which seems to have brought something terrifying back with it.

Scream Factory announced that they will be giving EVENT HORIZON the Collector's Edition treatment in a Blu-ray which is slated to debut this September. While special-features for the release haven't yet been revealed, Scream Factory did tease that they're looking into tracking down EVENT HORIZON's famous long-lost deleted scenes.

New extras are in progress and will be announced on a later date. We can confirm today that we are doing a new 4K scan of the film! As for any much-inquired-about additional footage (in addition to what’s be presented on prior releases), we are looking into it as best we can. We welcome any leads you may have alongside our efforts.

As the legend goes, once EVENT HORIZON became successful on DVD, Paramount Pictures and Paul W.S. Anderson became interested in releasing a director's cut of the film, only to find that much of the deleted footage had gone missing. The lost footage reportedly contains a lot of extremely graphic footage which the studio forced Anderson to trim following a test-screening in which some audience member's apparently fainted. Now, it's important to state that there's no guarantee that Scream Factory's release of EVENT HORIZON will feature these scenes, but we'll keep our finger's crossed.

Speaking of EVENT HORIZON, it was reported last year that Paramount Television and Amazon would be teaming up to develop a TV based on the film with Adam Wingard, best known for YOU'RE NEXT, THE GUEST, BLAIR WITCH, DEATH NOTE, and the upcoming GODZILLA VS. KONG, set to executive produce and direct the potential Event Horizon series. Scream Factory's EVENT HORIZON Collector's Edition Blu-ray is planned for a September 29, 2020 release, but they note that the date could change as they're "still experiencing a domino effect from the COVID situation."
