Ryan Reynolds to star in Clue reboot from Deadpool writers

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Ryan Reynolds seems content to stick around 20th Century Fox for a while, as Deadline reports that the actor, as well as his production company Maximum Effort, has inked a three-year first look deal with the studio. The first project out of the gate under this new deal will be a remake of CLUE, the 1985 film based upon the Hasbro board-game of the same name.

Ryan Reynolds will both star in and produce the CLUE remake, with is set to reunite him with DEADPOOL writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who are currently in talks with the studio to pen the script. Before 20th Century Fox landed the rights, Universal Pictures had been attempting to get a CLUE remake off the ground with Gore Verbinski set to direct. A report via The Tracking Board last year stated that there was "a desire to move the story out of the parlor and make it a game of “worldwide mystery” with action-adventure elements, potentially setting up a possible franchise that could play well internationally." Assuming the film includes many of the characters found within the game, which role would Ryan Reynolds prove to be the best fit for? Colonel Mustard? Professor Plum? Miss Scarlett?

DEADPOOL 2 will hit theaters on May 18, 2018.
