Rumor: The Terminator reboot/sequel may be dropping the Genesis subtitle

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

With the film already in production under the title TERMINATOR: GENESIS, Alan Taylor‘s movie may be dropping the subtitle in favor of the much simpler and more direct name TERMINATOR. Bleeding Cool has cited several merchandising sources that have indicated that toys and other tie-in material for the new film are being assembled with the title TERMINATOR and no GENESIS.

Before we consider this more than just a marketing decision, it would seem to be a more fitting title of what is being theorized as the start of a new trilogy. Some intel regarding the screenplay have the movie venturing back to the original James Cameron film and taking the timeline in a different direction. This approach worked for J.J. Abrams‘ STAR TREK and the TERMINATOR franchise has been built on time travel conceits, so this could be very plausible.

Or, it could just be a marketing tool and that is it. Using the broader title of TERMINATOR would mean anything manufactured for TERMINATOR: GENESIS could also include items from the preceding four films in the franchise without worrying about title. With TERMINATOR: GENESIS a major movie thanks to the return of Arnold Schwarzenegger, I would expect to know more after the upcoming San Diego Comic Con.

TERMINATOR: GENESIS is slated for release on July 1, 2015.
