Rumor: Star Wars: Episode VII may feature original trilogy flashbacks

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Consider this a rumor and nothing more, but apparently Carrie Fisher‘s daughter Billie Lourd has been cast in STAR WARS: EPISODE VII and sources claim it is to play Princess Leia in flashbacks to the original trilogy. While there is no substantiation to this news, The Daily Mail seems to be building on rumors that have been circling online for weeks now.

Lourd, as you can see in the image above, bears more than a striking resemblance to Carrie Fisher. It is not too far-fetched to think that J.J. Abrams would make such a decision to showcase flashbacks that would enhance the events of what occurred between RETURN OF THE JEDI and the upcoming STAR WARS: EPISODE VII. But, the rumors also indicate that Lourd would sport Leia’s famous hairbuns, which would mean the flashbacks are set during the events of A NEW HOPE, a weird period to flashback to. This does open the possibility of casting scenes and showcasing other perspectives or angles from the original films to further the story of STAR WARS: EPISODE VII, but who knows at this point.

I would expect more to be revealed about STAR WARS: EPISODE VII at this month’s San Diego Comic Con, but for now it does open another entire possible world of flashbacks I had not even considered before. Here’s hoping there is some solid news soon that we don’t have to put a disclaimer on.

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII opens December 18, 2015.
