Rumor: Benedict Cumberbatch to join Star Wars: Episode VII as a Sith Lord

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

It's been rumored that some major casting news for STAR WARS: EPISODE VII could drop soon, and Film Chronicles has learned that Benedict Cumberbatch might be joining the project. Film Chronicles doesn't reveal a source, but several sites have heard similar news. In fact, Badass Digest believes they know who Cumberbatch will be playing in the upcoming film:

I've heard this too, and I've heard the role he's up for is that of a bad guy, almost certainly a Sith. And it's a major role, one that will continue throughout the whole new trilogy. This part is why he dropped out of Guillermo del Toro's Crimson Peak.

Badass Digest also says there are a few other projects Benedict Cumberbatch will have to leave in order to work on STAR WARS: EPISODE VII with director J.J. Abrams, so this isn't set in stone just yet and there still is a chance it won't happen. There have been a few official denials about Benedict Cumberbatch starring in the new film, but are you going to really believe a rebuttal from a J.J. Abrams production? Remember how things went for Abrams and "John Harrison"? Cumberbatch might not be a lock for the new STAR WARS but it certainly sounds like there is interest in bringing Sherlock to the Dark Side, and if it is true hopefully we'll get an official announcement shortly.

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII is scheduled to be released sometime in 2015.
