Director James Mangold (THE WOLVERINE, 3:10 TO YUMA), aside from being attached to the next solo Wolverine flick, has also had his sights set on directing the first in a mystery series featuring sleuth Travis McGee. THE DEEP BLUE GOOD-BY will follow some of the life and times of McGee as he takes “salvage consultant” jobs, recovering property for clients, taking a big percentage, and getting into misadventures along the way. Christian Bale is lined up to play the enigmatic McGee and now Sony has hired the lady to play opposite him, the lovely Rosamund Pike.
Rosamund Pike most recently displayed her acting prowess in David Ficher's GONE GIRL, and nabbed herself the Best Actress nomination. While she didn't take home the statue, her performance was one of the most entertaining of the year, and will undoubtedly pave the way for her to take up some meaty roles in the future. I'm completely unfamiliar with any of the 21 Travis McGee books but I'm hoping that the character is worthy of Pike's time. And if she has to slit a throat or two at some point, that couldn't hurt.
