Everyone knows that the fine folks over at KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) keep the details of their “secret recipe” hidden from the world, though perhaps now they’ve gone too far? I say this because, starting next week, the fried chicken franchise is enlisting Robocop as the protector of the Colonel’s coveted chemistry for captivating chicken.
As per the clever marketing movement, Kentucky Fried Chicken will crown Robocop as its latest Colonel as a part of its ongoing ad campaign that features notable actors and characters as the mustachioed icon. And before you ask, yes, the Detroit cyborg will definitely be sporting the mascot’s signature powder-white doo, manicured facial hair, spectacles, and snazzy dress shirt, complete with a black ribbon tie. It’s quite the sight, and you can check it out for yourself below:
"More than 30 years after his debut, we commissioned RoboCop with a new directive – to act as protector and preserve a copy of our secret recipe by transporting it to a nuclear proof location," explained KFC Chief United States Marketing Officer Andrea Zahumensky. "Now, if you happen to survive the apocalypse, you can still enjoy Kentucky Fried Chicken. Makes perfect sense, right?”
Before Robocop signed up to thank KFC customers for their patronage and cooperation, the “they must put heroin in the chicken” restaurant chain featured the likes of GAME OF THRONES’ The Mountain to Reba McEntire as the legendary spokescharacter for the curious campaign. Funnily enough, this is not the first time that Peter Weller’s peacekeeping automaton has shilled for the sake of fried chicken. I know, I was a little taken aback by this fact as well, though it appears that Robocop appeared in a Korean fried chicken commercial in the ‘80s. I suppose a cyborg needs to pay for lube jobs somehow, right?
Commercials featuring Robocop as the new (and temporary) spokesbot for KFC will begin airing as of February 24th.
