Ridley thinks Star Wars’ finale won’t be as divisive as Game of Thrones’

This December the Skywalker Saga that started all the way back in 1977 will come to an end with STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER – and naturally everyone and their mothers have their theory as to how it will all end. The discussion and arguing over how it turns out will, I think, shred the internet into a million pieces, but star Daisy Ridley is a bit more optimistic, as she doesn’t think the ending will be as controversial as, say, the ending of a small fantasy-drama series called GAME OF THRONES.

Ridley was on the carpet at the D23 Expo last weekend when she stopped to talk with MTV News about the upcoming ninth entry in the series (via Uproxx). It was there she talked about how she’s just finished the fourth season of the hit HBO show, but that she still knows how it all ends. With that in mind, she was asked if she thinks the ending of SKYWALKER is more or less controversial, to which she answered with a direct “I think this ending will be less controversial.”

The ending of GAME OF THRONES nearly split the internet in two when it aired back in May, with everyone up in arms over how certain characters met their end and who ended up on the throne. With Disney security breathing down her neck she knew not to go into any further details as to why she thinks SKYWALKER's end won't be as divisive. However, she did talk about how she found bringing her character, Rey [insert last name here], to the conclusion of everything felt very satisfying.

“Yeah. It felt really…doing it, I was like, physically, couldn’t have done anything else. Emotionally, couldn’t have done anything else," she said. "So, it was really, genuinely satisfying doing it all, filming it all. There would be scenes where I would be so excited to film them.”

The recent footage for the movie certainly stirred some conversation online, mostly because by the end we not only got a glimpse at a red-eyed C-3PO but also a visual of Rey in Sith garb, wielding an elaborate, two-bladed red lightsaber. This spurned tons of theories about Rey turning to the Dark Side, and whether this was just some sort of vision or something she actually goes through. We will have no idea what the truth is until it hits theaters this December, but no doubt everyone online already knows how it will definitely end and there's no way they could be wrong and how dare J.J. Abrams if it doesn't end that particular way.

We experienced something somewhat resembling a controversial response when THE LAST JEDI hit theaters in 2017, but luckily the conversation is all but nonexistent now. All we have to do is wait patiently for the new movie to come out in a few short months, and then we can politely pick the discussion back up, and remember everyone has opinions and thoughts that will not always reflect their own. Breathe in, breathe out, lather, rinse, repeat.
