Paramount has locked in a release date for its WORLD WAR Z sequel. The studio has announced it will be in theaters on June 9, 2017, and it will open against the FANTASTIC FOUR sequel, although there's a good chance one of them will be moved to a different date. THE IMPOSSIBLE's J.A. Bayona will direct the film from a script by LOCKE and Peaky Blinders screenwriter Steven Knight, and Brad Pitt is expected to reprise his role as former UN investigator Gerry Lane.
Steven Knight on writing the WWZ 2 script from earlier this year:
I thought, ‘why not? What fun.’ It’s not quite like the other, we’re starting with clean slate. When they’ve signed off we’re on.
Universal has also announced a release date for an upcoming sequel. MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING 2 is now set to hit theaters on March 25, 2016. There's a little movie opening on the same date you may have heard of called BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE, and while I'm sure HBO, Gold Circle and Playtone think this is good counter-programming for those not interested in seeing the highly anticipated comic book movie, I doubt the film is going to perform as well as the first one did at the box office. Stars Nia Vardalos and John Corbett will be back for the sequel (with Vardalos is again writing the script), and Kirk Jones (WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU'RE EXPECTING, EVERYBODY'S FINE) is set to helm the planned movie.
