Michael Crichton's WESTWORLD took place in a high-tech amusement park by the name of Delos; the park consisted of three "worlds," Roman World, Medieval World, and Westworld, all populated by highly realistic androids. Crichton's film mostly took place in Westworld, duh, and followed two guests (played by James Brolin and Richard Benjamin) as they enjoyed their stay at the most incredible amusement park in the world. Naturally, the androids broke down and chaos ensued. It wasn't particularly deep or dramatic, but it was a heck of a lot of fun and full of great ideas and imagery; the perfect starting point for a new adaptation.
HBO will bring WESTWORLD to life once again in what is described as "a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin." Series co-creator Jonathan Nolan said that the team set out to make the "most ambitious, subversive, f–ked-up television series" with "the things that keep you up at night." That certainly sounds good to me, but now HBO has offered up a brief teaser for the new series, check it out!
Westworld has gathered up quite the impressive cast, which includes Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, Evan Rachel Wood, James Marsden, Thandie Newton, Jeffrey Wright, Rodrigo Santoro, Shannon Woodward, Ben Barnes, Jimmi Simpson, Clifton Collins Jr., Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Angela Sarafyan, and Simon Quarterman. The series is expected to premiere on HBO sometime in 2016.
