New Pink Panther movie coming from Sonic the Hedgehog director

Pink Panther, movie, Sonic the Hedgehog

Remember SONIC THE HEDGEHOG? That movie hit theaters this year, which seems crazy considering everything that's happened since. The live-action/CGI hybrid was surprisingly successful and it seems that director Jeff Fowler is looking to set his sights on another iconic critter — The Pink Panther.

MGM is currently developing a Pink Panther movie and have tapped Jeff Fowler to direct. Much like SONIC THE HEDGEHOG, the Pink Panther movie will also be a live-action/CGI hybrid. Chris Bremmer (BAD BOYS FOR LIFE) is slated to write the feature, which will be produced by Lawrence Mirisch, Julie Andrews, Dan Lin, and Jonathan Eirich. In a statement, MGM Film Group Chairman Michael De Luca and MGM Film Group President Pamela Abdy said:

Popular the world over, the legacy of the iconic Pink Panther has endured for more than 50 years and continues to be discovered by new generations. We are so happy to come together with Jeff, Chris, Larry, Julie, Dan, Jonathan, Walter and Ryan to bring one of MGM’s most well-loved franchise back to the big screen and in a way audience have never seen before.

Co-created by Blake Edwards, THE PINK PANTHER franchise includes multiple films that starred Peter Sellers as the inept French police detective, Inspector Jacques Clouseau. There was also two reboot films that starred Steve Martin as Clouseau. The Pink Panther in question in those films was not the animal, but rather an enormous pink diamond, but the Pink Panther character that appeared in the animated opening credits proved to be so popular that they quickly developed a series of theatrical shorts as well as an animated TV show. Although the character has become the face of the entire franchise, there has never actually been a feature-film focusing on the Pink Panther…until now. This project has actually been in development since 2014, but with Jeff Fowler on board, hopefully it will start moving forward a little quicker.
