Petition making the rounds for George Lucas to direct Star Wars: Episode IX

You can’t make everyone happy all the time… and STAR WARS should be living proof of that. It doesn’t matter what the saga does at this point; someone is going to bitch that it isn’t to their liking.

Make a movie that feels too much like a previous STAR WARS chapter and it’s not original enough. Make a film that’s too original, and it doesn’t quite feel like STAR WARS enough. Use too many new characters, and people want more of their old favorites, but use the old chacters too much and it’s all too familiar. And don’t even get me started on the people who complain about the movies because they aren’t as good as the ones they wrote in their heads…

But I digress…

The point I was trying to make is that often enough STAR WARS don’t really know what they want, and the evidence of that is in this wild petition making the rounds asking for George Lucas to be brought back to direct STAR WARS: EPISODE IX.

Yes… that George Lucas…

The one they didn’t want touching STAR WARS again after their prequel experiences. The one who several claimed “raped their childhood.” The one who was all about selling toys and very little about making movies.

It doesn’t matter that Colin Trevorrow already has the job. He’s not “their” choice for the gig, and, as a result, the devil they know is better than the devil they don’t. Look… It’s not as if this is going to happen. George Lucas and Disney are not on the best of terms right now, and The Mouse isn’t going to kowtow to a vocal minority of fans who think they know best. But it just goes to show the power that some people think they have to change things of this nature… which is really far from reality.
