Peter Jackson did the impossible by bringing the classic “Lord of the Rings” books to life with his amazing trilogy of films. He also came back to bring to life the story of "The Hobbit" – albeit to less stunning, but still fun, effect. Now Amazon hopes to recreate that magic with their own series based in the world of Middle-earth, but in a new interview Jackson confirmed he will have no part in the show.
The director was speaking with French outlet Allocine (via Indiewire) recently when he was asked about the LOTR series and if he would have any involvement. Rumors spread this year that he could be on board as a producer, but Jackson quickly shot those down.
I’m not involved at all in the ‘Lord of the Rings’ series. I understand how my name could come up, but there is nothing happening with me on this project.
But that’s not all. Jackson also took another rumor to task regarding his involvement in a movie for DC and Warner Bros. The rumor circulated that he was talking with the companies about making a comic book movie, but Jackson claimed that wasn’t true, and for one good reason: he doesn’t like comics.
That’s not true. I had no discussions about that. I’m not a fan of comics, I’ve never read any, so I’m not particularly interested in adapting one for cinema. That’s not true at all. I’m not involved in any DC film or ‘Lord of The Rings’ series but I’m ok with it, I have plenty other projects that keep me busy.
Indeed he is, as Jackson has been deep into producing the upcoming MORTAL ENGINES movie (directed by protégé Christian Rivers), which just dropped its new trailer yesterday. That movie could perhaps spinoff into a franchise, and if it does, that could take up much more of Jackson’s time. On top of that, he has a new WWI documentary he’s working on. Also, fingers crossed for more Tin Tin.
MORTAL ENGINES is in theaters December 14.
