I know you’ve heard it all before and you’re wondering what’s different about this planned start date in comparison to any of the last updates about when and how GHOSTBUSTERS 3 would get up and running.
So here’s what I know: Ivan Reitman had another movie lined up to direct, DRAFT DAY starring Kevin Costner. But Paramount decided against getting the movie going “in the small window that Reitman has before he is expected to finally get the long-gestating Ghostbusters reboot in front of the cameras next summer for Sony Pictures (sans Bill Murray).” Which is about as definite as this is going to get without an official press release, but it still shows you that this is very much happening and there’s just about nothing you can do about it.
Dan Aykroyd had this to say back in 2011 about the state of the old characters at the start of the story, as well as who and what they’re looking for insofar as the new team goes: “My character, Ray, is now blind in one eye and can’t drive the cadillac. He’s got a bad knee and can’t carry the packs… Egon is too large to get into the harness. We need young blood and that’s the promise. We’re gonna hand it to a new generation… I like this guy Matthew Gray Gubler from the ‘Criminal Minds’ show,” he adds, “But there’s going to be a casting. We’re going to see everyone that wants to do it. We’re going to need… three guys and a young woman.”
If released in 2014, GHOSTBUSTERS 3 will be able to tie in to the 30 year anniversary of the first movie.
