George Clooney's directorial efforts have been pretty hit-or-miss for me, but his next project, SUBURBICON, certainly has potential. Clooney will be directing from a script by the Coen brothers, and although the planned film has been described as a 1950s-set noir drama in the vein of the Coens’ BLOOD SIMPLE, it sounds like it will be more of a dark dramedy, based on these new story details from The Wrap.
According to the site, the film is "set in the quiet family town of Suburbicon, where the best and worst of humanity is hilariously reflected through the deeds of seemingly ordinary people. When a home invasion turns deadly, a picture-perfect family turns to blackmail, revenge and betrayal."
The Wrap has also learned that Matt Damon and Julianne Moore, who have been in talks for roles in SUBURBICON, have officially signed on, however there's no word on the status of Josh Brolin's involvement with the film. A shooting start date hasn't been officially announced yet, but it was previously reported that the movie will head into production this October.
George Clooney can be seen next in the Coen brothers' HAIL, CAESAR!, which is due out on February 5th.
