It appears that Netflix has another hit on its hands with the Charlize Theron action flick, THE OLD GUARD. According to industry sources, the movie is set to be be seen by 72 million households within the next four weeks. That would land it comfortably at the number 6 spot in the pantheon of Netflix's top original movies ever. Not bad for a movie that many people I know haven't heard of until the last couple of weeks! And yes, it is damn entertaining!
Based on the graphic novel written by Greg Rucka (who also wrote the screenplay) and directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood (LOVE & BASKETBALL), THE OLD GUARD's synopsis rolls like this: Led by a warrior named Andy (Charlize Theron), a covert group of tight-knit mercenaries with a mysterious inability to die have fought to protect the mortal world for centuries. But when the team is recruited to take on an emergency mission and their extraordinary abilities are suddenly exposed, it’s up to Andy and Nile (KiKi Layne), the newest soldier to join their ranks, to help the group eliminate the threat of those who seek to replicate and monetize their power by any means necessary.
Do you guys think Netflix could become the new norm for how we watch brand new, big time films? I'm genuinely interested to hear what you have to say, so fire them comments below!
