Morgan Freeman joins the cast of Ted 2

Seth MacFarlane‘s brand of humor has always been deeply rooted in pop culture with his animated series constantly mocking celebrities and famous movies. While A MILLION WAYS TO DIE IN THE WEST failed to succeed the same way that TED did, hopefully adding some famous faces willing to mock themselves will help the foul-mouthed stuffed animal sequel top the charts again.

The Hollywood Reporter says that Oscar-winner Morgan Freeman has joined the cast of TED 2. MacFarlane will write and direct the follow-up to his 2012 hit as well as voice the title character. Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis are returning along with new castmate Amanda Seyfried.

There is no word on plot for TED 2 or who exactly Morgan Freeman will be playing, but I just hope that his character will get to do something truly unique compared to his normal work. Freeman is such an iconic actor that he can appear in any number of films from the serious (MILLION DOLLAR BABY) to the action-packed (LUCY), comedy (LAST VEGAS) to family friendly (DOLPHIN TALE 2). While none of those movies are quite the same caliber as his work in UNFORGIVEN or MILLION DOLLAR BABY, Freeman gets a free pass based on his body of work.

TED 2 is slated to hit theaters on June 26, 2015.
