Over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, we've seen more and more studios looking to shrink the theatrical release window for an early streaming or PVOD launch, and Paramount is the latest to jump onboard. It was announced today that Paramount will debut Mission: Impossible 7 and A Quiet Place Part II on the Paramount+ streaming service 45 days after their theatrical release dates.
A Quiet Place Part II is currently slated to debut on September 17th, with Mission: Impossible 7 following on November 19th. The studio will also be releasing the animated Paw Patrol movie on Paramount+ in a similar manner, 45 days after its August 20th debut. In addition to Paramount's plan for A Quiet Place Part II, Mission: Impossible 7, and Paw Patrol, we've seen studios such as Universal make similar deals to shorten the theatrical window. Universal came to a multi-year agreement last year that states that any Universal movie that opens to $50 million or more at the domestic box-office will be available via PVOD just 31 days after it premieres on the big-screen. All other films that fall under the Universal, Dreamworks Animation, or Focus Features banner will be made available after 17 days. We've also seen Warner Bros. roll out an ambitious plan to release their entire 2021 slate in theaters and on HBO Max on the same day. Even once the pandemic restrictions are eased, we're likely on the cusp of a whole new theatrical/streaming world.
