Matt Damon prepares to kick some ass in our first look at Bourne 5

I never expected, nor needed, Matt Damon to return to the character of Jason Bourne, after THE BOURNE IDENTITY, THE BOURNE SUPREMACY, and THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM, it felt as though Bourne's story had been told; but that's not how Hollywood works so after the lackluster reception that the Matt Damon-less BOURNE LEGACY received, Matt Damon has returned to get the franchise back on track.

Production on BOURNE 5 kicked off today and series producer Frank Marshall tweeted our first look at Matt Damon stepping into some familiar shoes. Check it out!

From the looks of this photo, the series' customery fisticuffs won't be going anywhere. The world has changed quite a bit since the last time Jason Bourne graced us with his presence but Matt Damon has previously teased that BOURNE 5 will address life in a post-Snowden world:

We always looked at those movies as really about the Bush presidency, and so we kind of had to wait for the world to change…Without giving too much of it away, it’s Bourne through an austerity-riddled Europe and in a post-Snowden world. It seems like enough has changed, you know? There are all these kinds of arguments about spying and civil liberties and the nature of democracy.

While I said that I didn't need Jason Bourne to return, that doesn't mean that I'm opposed to another BOURNE film in any way, if Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass have put together a story which pleases them and can deliver a film on par with the others, I say bring it on. Matt Damon will be joined by Julia Stiles, Tommy Lee Jones, Alicia Vikander, and Vincent Cassel on BOURNE 5, which should open on July 29, 2016.
